Film Industry Veteran and Dialogue Coach on the Hit ABC Comedy BLACKish, Iona Morris, Makes Her Directorial Debut with Short Film “Celeste’s Dreams”; Accepted into Several Film Festivals
Boston, Massachusetts – (November 20, 2020) A vet in the theatre and television industry, Iona Morris brings her experience as a writer and director into the short-film format for the first time. Currently the Dialogue Coach on the hit ABC comedy BLACKish, Morris has directed/acted in the award winning comedy Sassy Mamas and has taken home the Best Director trophy from the NAACP Theatre Awards; these credits are just the tip of the iceberg of a long and illustrious career in the theatre and television arts.
Morris is the writer and director of Celeste’s Dreams, a short-film that paints the vivid story of a young woman dealing with the loss of her mother. The short examines the fear, anxiety, and heartache the protagonist must confront upon turning the same age as her mother when she passed. A deeply personal story, Morris’ film examines existential questions about life and death, about self-love, and mental health. A recognizable story told through the lens of characters we don’t often get to hear from, Celeste’s Dreams is an achievement in storytelling and inclusion. With a musical score composed by Munyungo Jackson, Deron Johnson and Haakon Graf, and brilliant cinematography executed by Troy Smith, the film is a showcase of the many talented artists and professionals who worked with Morris on its completion.
Celeste’s Dream has most recently been screened at the Chicago Indie Film Awards, the London International Short Film Festival, the African American Film Marketplace and S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase, Film Miami Fest/ Best Shorts Worldwide Film Miami Fest, World Film Festival – Los Angeles, Big Apple Film Festival and Screenplay Competition New York, New York, Las Vegas Black Film Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Marbella International Film Festival.
